Beyond the Installation
How ITS Cambodia helped bring advanced MRI diagnostics to Phnom Penh, and why staying matters as much as delivering.
Installing a medical system is only the beginning. For Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital in Phnom Penh, that distinction made all the difference.
The Challenge
Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital is part of a growing network of medical facilities in Phnom Penh committed to raising the standard of clinical care for the communities they serve. When the hospital embarked on the establishment of a dedicated MRI Centre, the priority was clear: deliver a system that would perform reliably, integrate smoothly into existing clinical workflows, and be supported effectively over the long term.
The Partnership
ITS Cambodia worked alongside GE HealthCare to bring an advanced MRI system to Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital: a three-way collaboration between a global technology leader, a regional distribution partner with deep local presence, and a hospital committed to raising its standard of care.
The project required close coordination from the outset: scoping the clinical requirements, managing the installation process, and ensuring the system was properly commissioned and operational before handover. ITS Cambodia served as the local implementation partner, providing the on-the-ground continuity that a project of this complexity demands.
The Installation
The MRI Centre at Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital was successfully commissioned and opened, marking a significant milestone in the three-way partnership. For the first time, the hospital’s clinical team had access to advanced diagnostic imaging capability, enabling more accurate and timely diagnosis for patients across a wide range of conditions.
The grand opening marked not just the completion of a project, but the beginning of a new standard of care at the facility.
What Happened Next

Since commissioning, the MRI system has been operating reliably. The clinical team at Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital, including the radiology team, has expressed satisfaction with its performance and image quality. Rather than stepping back after handover, the ITS Cambodia team has remained actively engaged: providing ongoing application support, conducting regular follow-up visits, and working with the clinical team to optimise workflows and ensure the system continues to meet the hospital’s requirements.
The result is a facility that is not just equipped with advanced technology, but supported to use it well.
